Pennington, N.J. – Jan. 28, 2013 – PD-LD Inc., the worldwide leader in Volume Bragg Grating® (VBG®) technology, announces two new patents pertaining to developments in Volume-Bragg Grating® (VBG®) applications, further expanding the technologies uniqueness. The new patents focus on two specific areas within the VBG space. US 8,339,598 relates to Raman spectroscopy without the use of a spectrometer where analysis is done on a series of discrete bands that are representative of the substance of interest. Such architectures lend themselves well to low cost, small and ruggedized handheld Raman detection systems.

US 8,340,150 claims a method of coherently combining the output of multiple laser emitters using a holographic optical element which combines the output of all the emitters into a single beam and a VBG output coupler, to stabilize the operating wavelengths of all simultaneously, resulting in a high brightness source via combining many emitters.

.

“These new patents add to our already-diverse range of VBG applications,” said Uri Abrams, President of PD-LD. “Continued expansion of our patent portfolio showcases PD-LD’s commitment to innovation and leadership within the VBG space.”

The company had also announced two additional patents over the last 12-months, US 8,306,088 which pertained to an FAC plus VBG monolithic element facilitating simultaneous collimation and stabilization of laser diodes and US 8,125,635 on “Shifted Excitation Raman Difference Spectroscopy”, a method the company pioneers in the Raman space where their newly released LabSource instrument LS-2 model was a winner of the SPIE Prism Award last year in the Scientific Lasers category.

“These recent developments enable us to offer products that exceed the expectations of the market place and supersede our competitor products “said Robert Struthers, PD-LD Executive VP of Business Development. “Our award-winning and patent-protected technology sets PD-LD apart with a unique set of products and services”

January 19, 2012 – PD-LD, Inc. is pleased to formally announce the introduction of the company’s new LabSource series of benchtop laser sources. Two models are currently available. The first, the LS-1, features a single Volume Bragg Grating®-stabilized laser source and the second, the LS-2, features dual laser sources that enable it to perform a variety of unique tasks, e.g., dual wavelength light therapy, specialized analytics, etc.

These modules offer a convenient, customizable solution at a manageable price point. “The modules offer an excellent performance to price ratio and a variety of wavelength options, extending their potential applications beyond spectral analysis,” said PD-LD CEO Vladimir Ban. Both the LS-1 and LS-2 include integrated drive circuitry and software, making them easily integrated with existing laboratory instruments, and with user-friendly interface and ergonomic design, they offer quick set up and ease of use.

“Our design team paid particular attention to the feedback and input received from our customer base and market research in creating this unprecedented instrument” said PD-LD president Uri Abrams. “LabSource has made a quantum leap in design, functionality and the type of user interfaces offered as standard, far surpassing any similar products currently available on the market.” Abrams continued, “ The LS2 model is particularly designed to enable the application of SERDS techniques outlined in our most recent US patent number 7,982,869. We are very optimistic about the near term prospects this new product line offers towards our growth. We already have many units in the market and our operations group is diligently working on fulfilling the growing demand for these units.”

The LS-1 contains a single stabilized laser source, while the LS-2 features two closely-spaced dual laser sources –in lieu of a single source – which enables it to positively identify a far wider range of substances. Most notably, it can analyze and identify fluorescent substances that have previously proven difficult or impossible to identify or analyze via traditional single-source Raman spectroscopy. The underlying dual-source technique, known as Shifted Excitation Raman Differential Spectroscopy, or SERDS, represents a significant development in the capabilities of Raman spectroscopy, particularly in field-based settings or in the analysis of organic and/or biological samples.

The LabSource modules are a major new development in PD-LD’s VBG®-based product line “These modules represent the first completely turnkey VBG®-stabilized products to be offered in the marketplace. They are well-suited for customers who wish to have a complete laser solution, rather than working with a group of discrete parts” said Tom DeBerardine, PD-LD’s VP of marketing and sales.

More information about these modules and other PD-LD products and processes can be found at www.pd-ld.com or http://youtu.be/TiRfxGaF2eA

January 16, 2012 – PD-LD announces the grant of US Patent #7,982,869, which protects the use of dual laser sources for the analysis of a single substance. This novel technique based on VBG® laser wavelength stabilization, which is exclusive to PD-LD, provides the underlying mechanism for Shifted Excitation Raman Differential Spectroscopy, or SERDS.

SERDS is a powerful analytical technique that represents a significant development in the capabilities of Raman spectroscopy. “This patent enables PD-LD to offer Raman excitation sources that dramatically extend the capability of portable and lab-based Raman instruments alike, and is particularly relevant to the life sciences and security industries, where fluorescence is widespread,” said PD-LD CEO Vladimir Ban.

This newly patented methodology is exclusive to PD-LD – there are currently no licensees of this patent family – and is primed to give rise to a new family of patents in the coming year. “This patent further solidifies and validates PD-LD’s unsurpassed leadership in Raman excitation sources. “said PD-LD president Uri Abrams. “Our patent portfolio is rapidly growing, and we anticipate many more SERDS application patents to be issued in 2012.”
