Pennington, N.J. – Jan. 18, 2010 – PD-LD, Inc., the worldwide leader in Volume Bragg Grating® (VBG®) technology, has introduced its next generation of Raman Laser sources, the Compact Raman Boxx. The newly-redesigned product’s smaller size (by a factor of four) will be better suited for OEM application, where it can be integrated into systems requiring stabilized, narrow linewidth lasers with a convenient fiber-coupled output.

“We can now provide end users with full control of the laser diode, alleviating their need to design a laser control circuit,” said Dr. Boris Volodin, PD-LD’s director of research and development. “And, with our long-term testing of and proven track record with the first generation Raman Boxx, our customers can use this product with confidence in high reliability applications.”

The Compact Raman Boxx is a self contained unit with internal thermal compensation circuitry that, along with VBG optical stabilization, creates an ultra-stable laser output with respect to power and spectrum. Each assembly is built using VBG stabilized semiconductor laser diodes. The initial product offering will be units operating at 785nm having a fiber coupled adjustable power output up to 500mW. The modules operate off of a standard 5V power supply and are PC controlled via USB interface. Their 76mm X 64mm X 18mm (3 X 2.5 X 0.7 inch) footprint and low power consumption allow them to be conveniently designed into Raman systems where portability is needed and space is at a premium.
